Quantum Channels provide the most general framework for the consideration of quantum information processing, and the mathematical foundations for the study of many dynamical aspects of open quantum systems - such as convergence properties, stability and fixed points. In this series we will  introduce the notion of a quantum channel and proceed to survey a collection of important results, with direct application to both quantum information processing and open quantum systems. A background in both linear algebra and quantum mechanics is required.

 

Lecture 1: (A) Constructing Quantum Mechanics – Observables, States and Evolution.  (B) An Introduction to the Algebraic Framework.

Lecture 2: (A) Representations of Quantum Channels.

Lecture 3: (A) Spectral Properties of Quantum Channels. (B) Irreducible Quantum Channels.

Lecture 4: (A) Primitive Quantum Channels. (B) Fixed Points of Quantum Channels.

Lecture 5: Quantum Dynamical Semigroups – Their Representations, Fixed Points and Convergence properties.
